You need the Web.
The good ole World Wide Web.
We have to thank Tim Berners-Lee.
I needed it this year and still do, for four reasons.
1. Google.
When in doubt, Google It.
Google is your friend.
There have been so many times I’ve had a question. Sometimes having no-one there to answer it. Google it. There is a wealth of knowledge and advice out there that can be REALLY useful. People suggest things you haven’t tried, and offer advice you haven’t considered. You have to take a lot of it with a pinch of salt, but it definitely comes in useful.
2. Blog
I LOVE blogging. I find it therapeutic, peaceful and challenging. There’s always something new to learn or try. New people to meet and interact with. I enjoy the sharing aspect of it. Sharing is good, that’s what I’ll teach Holly. If you fancy jumping on the bandwagon Word Press is a good place to start.
3. Facebook
It’s not always a time wasting distraction. Life is busy. It allows us to keep in touch with our friends and acquaintances. You can stalk the people who you find quirky, message the people you love. It’s a great platform.
4. Twitter
Is amazing. If you don’t get it, make time. You can do some incredible things, and have reach to information that would take forever to find elsewhere. I’ve met some really interesting people who think the same as me, and some who challenge how I think. I won the Plum competition through Twitter and can’t complain about the things it offers. Get involved.
The web is a great resource. We have to be careful with how much we use it (says the woman who is blogging every day for a month). It can become distracting and avert our attention from family, friends and even children. I try very hard not to spend much time on my phone with Holly around, I don’t want her to think I’m ignoring her. But being connected has helped get me through.
In the words of BT – ‘It’s good to talk’.
G is for Google.
