Get out.
Out of the house.
I know, It’s hard at first. New baby, no routine, no feeding schedule. But I found I HAD to get out. I needed fresh air, exercise and conversation. It’s great to join mums who are in the same situation. You can complain about being tired, confused and covered in poo to people who laugh because they were there too – ten minutes ago!!
It’s hard to get out. I stepped out of my comfort zone a few times and joined “mum groups”. We did Pramtastic, Baby Yoga, Baby Sign, Water Babies & Baby Massage. Some groups I loved, some I didn’t but all of them got me out of the house and allowed us to socialise with other mums and babies.
It’s not just about getting out with baby. Me & Tom still need to get out without, not because we don’t love Holly, but because we love each other! You still need to go out, be young, have fun with friends!!
We recently hit a concert at Temple Newsam for the arrival of the Olympic Torch with our good friends Richard & Natalie. It was great fun! Just to be out in the sun, with no pram, no baby bag and it was passed 7pm!! Unheard of! What was also unheard of was the fact they confiscated my umbrella and threw it in the bin!?
The good news about getting out and about is that I’ve found it has got easier with time. At first the embarrassment of breast feeding in public was a nightmare. Now that Holly can happily shove raisins into her face, it’s easier. I’m also more confident about caring for her and although life isn’t exactly the same as it was before it does feel normal again. Honest.
O is for Out and About.
